Our History

Crescent Towing and Salvage was established on May 7, 1942 by the Smith Family of New Orleans, Louisiana. After establishing itself as the premier tug provider on the Mississippi River, thirty-seven years later, Crescent Towing opened its doors in Mobile, Alabama on November 11, 1979. In 1983, Crescent Towing’s parent group at the time, T. Smith and Son, merged with Cooper Stevedoring to form The Cooper Group, Inc. Shortly following the merger, on December 20, 1985, Crescent Towing established its operations in Savannah, Georgia.

From the steam powered tugboats of the 1940’s to the state-of-the-art z-drive tugboats of today, Crescent Towing continues to provide superior ship assist service in the ports of New Orleans, Mobile, and Savannah.
